Learning to manage an emergency away from conventional emergency services

The first aid in isolated and extreme environments training course is aimed at people who spend time in the mountains, forests, bivouacs or remote construction sites, where emergency services may take a long time to arrive or may be uncertain. Over 1 to 2 days, this field-oriented training course teaches you how to assess a situation, stabilise a victim, improvise equipment and organise safe transport in difficult environments. An ideal module for enhancing the autonomy and safety of outdoor enthusiasts and field teams.

Target audience

This training course is aimed at anyone who spends time in natural or isolated environments, where rapid access to emergency services cannot be guaranteed. It is ideal for:

  • Hikers, mountaineers, trekkers, climbers and bivouac enthusiasts
  • Mountain guides, guides, outdoor instructors and group leaders
  • Teams working in hard-to-reach environments: isolated construction sites, technical installations, scientific expeditions
  • Clubs, associations and outdoor activity leaders
  • People wishing to increase their autonomy and emergency management skills outside urban areas

No prerequisites are necessary, only the desire to learn how to act effectively in isolated terrain.

Learning objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess an emergency situation in a remote area and ensure their own safety
  • Stabilise a victim over time when emergency services are delayed
  • Prioritise essential actions according to the context and available resources
  • Manage common outdoor injuries: wounds, sprains, trauma, suspected fractures
  • Deal with thermal shock: hypothermia, dehydration, heatstroke
  • Improvising emergency equipment (splints, stretchers, thermal protection)
  • Organise the transport of an injured person over uneven terrain while minimising risks
  • Communicate with emergency services and relay relevant information
  • Work as a team, assign roles and manage stress in a real-life situation

The objective: to become more independent, organised and effective when far from medical facilities.
