Paediatric first aid
This programme is aimed at health professionals, educators, teachers, youth workers, as well as parents, babysitters, and anyone who wants to know how to react effectively in the event of an accident or illness in children.
Objectives
At the end of the programme, participants should:
- Provide for their own safety,
- Manage conscious or unconscious victims,
- Recognise emergencies and activate the necessary alerts,
- Apply basic life support (BLS) techniques or monitor the casualty while awaiting rescue or medical consultation.
Course content
This balanced programme of theory and practice focuses on accident prevention and the specific anatomical features of children. It teaches techniques for assessing consciousness, activating alerts (informing parents or the emergency services) and suitable approaches for rescuing children and adults. Participants will learn to:
- Place a victim in a lateral safety position,
- Identify the signs of cardiac arrest,
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automatic external defibrillator (AED).
The course also covers accident management (head trauma, dental trauma, fractures, wounds, burns, airway obstructions), common illnesses (fever, convulsions, respiratory disorders, allergies), the administration of medication, and features realistic simulations.
