Emergency Response Training for Healthcare Facilities and Nursing Homes (EMS)

This training course for healthcare facilities and nursing homes (EMS) is designed for staff who may encounter common medical emergencies, including illness, suspected stroke, heart attack, respiratory distress, falls and trauma. Over one day, participants strengthen their immediate response skills, learn how to raise the alarm, communicate with emergency services and coordinate effectively as a team. The course also focuses on safety during patient mobilisation and transfers, helping to protect both patients and healthcare workers in a clinical setting.

Target audience

This course is specifically designed for professionals working in healthcare and social care facilities who may face emergency situations in their daily work:

• Healthcare staff: nurses, nursing assistants, healthcare assistants and community health assistants (ASSC)
• Medical assistants and care support staff
• Staff and employees of nursing homes (EMS), retirement homes and residential care facilities
• Staff working in clinics, hospitals and medical practices
• Non-medical staff who may be required to provide first-line assistance, such as reception, housekeeping and logistics staff

The training does not replace medical or nursing qualifications, but aims to standardise response procedures and coordination in emergency situations.

Course content

The training takes place over 1 day and combines theory, demonstrations and practical scenarios adapted to the healthcare facility environment.

1. Recognition of medical emergencies

• Respiratory and circulatory distress
• Acute illness and loss of consciousness

3. Assisting with resuscitation

• Role of responders in healthcare facilities
• Assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation under supervision
• Use of available equipment according to internal procedures
• Teamwork and coordination

4. Managing falls and trauma

• Caring for a patient after a fall
• Assessing the risk of trauma
• What to do before mobilisation
• Preventing secondary complications

5. Safe mobilisation and transfers

• Ergonomic and safety principles
