Full BLS AED SRC course: First aid and resuscitation
In-company or face-to-face training leading to certification: Vaud, Geneva, Fribourg, Neuchatel, Valais and Jura
Target audience
Targeted at professionals requiring resuscitation skills (BLS) and anyone wishing to react effectively in an emergency (cardiac arrest, stroke, state of unconsciousness), this training also includes the lateral safety position (PLS). It is also of benefit to the relatives of cardiac patients. Our trainers, certified by the SRC, are specialists who have undergone dedicated training in BLS AED SRC.
Objectives
Participants will learn how to raise an alarm, ensure their own safety, practise resuscitation techniques on mannequins, and manage cardiac and cerebral emergencies. The programme prepares them to use these skills in real-life situations, encourages them to get involved in first aid and become part of the network of first responders.
Course content
The course covers self-protection, emergency assessment, the use of AEDs, and resuscitation techniques, aiming to improve emergency management, collaboration and communication, while addressing ethical and legal aspects.
Teaching methods include theoretical sessions (face-to-face, e-learning or blended) and practical exercises, enhanced by resuscitation simulations and discussions on commitment to first aid.
Accredited training
Under the continuing education regulations of the Swiss Society for Occupational Safety (SSST), this training counts as 2 continuing education units (CEUs).
What do the abbreviations BLS, AED and SRC stand for?
BLS = Basic life support
AED / DEA = Automated External Defibrillation
SRC = Swiss Resuscitation Council

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid: a complete SRC-certified course
The BLS-AED-SRC (Basic Life Support – Automated External Defibrillator) training course, certified by the Swiss Resuscitation Council (SRC), teaches the essential basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automatic defibrillator (AED). This course, suitable for both individuals and professionals, aims to develop the skills needed to respond quickly to a cardiac arrest according to the principle of X-ABCDE management.
During this training, you will learn how to recognise the signs of a life-threatening emergency, perform effective chest compressions and artificial ventilation. The training also includes the correct use of the defibrillator and following the steps of the chaîne de survie, with realistic scenarios to consolidate your reflexes.
Available face-to-face in the cantons of Vaud, Geneva, Fribourg, Neuchâtel, Valais and Jura, or onsite in companies throughout French-speaking Switzerland, this structured BLS-AED training programme also includes airway management, initial assessment of the victim, and coordination with the emergency services. It guarantees complete mastery of life-saving techniques, in line with Swiss standards.

The BLS-AED-SRC algorithm: a structured approach to saving lives
The BLS-AED-SRC algorithm, developed by the Swiss Resuscitation Council (SRC), is a unified and standardised methodology for the management of cardiac emergencies in Switzerland. Designed to meet the needs of professionals and individuals alike, the tool aims to maximise the chances of survival in the event of cardiocirculatory arrest. By providing a clear and reproducible structure, it helps first aiders to react effectively and coordinate their actions to save lives.
The essential steps of the BLS-AED-SRC algorithm
- Rapid identification of the emergency
- Immediate recognition of cardiocirculatory arrest: Unconsciousness and absence of normal breathing.
- Discontinuation of pulse monitoring in favour of assessment of visible vital signs.
- Identification of additional signs such as generalised spasms, which may signal impending cardiac arrest.
- Safety and alerting
- Protect the rescuer and the casualty from any immediate danger in the environment.
- Call the emergency services on 144 (Switzerland) without delay, staying with the victim if possible.
- Transmit precise and detailed information to professional rescue services for optimum care.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Perform chest compressions at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute and a depth of 5 to 6 cm in adults.
- Alternate 30 compressions and 2 insufflations if the rescuer is trained in assisted ventilation.
- Prioritise continuous cardiac massage when there is insufficient equipment or training for ventilations.
- Regularly exchange roles between rescuers to maintain consistent quality of compressions.
- Use of the AED
- Position the electrodes according to the device’s visual and voice instructions.
- Follow the AED’s instructions to ensure safe and effective use.
- Perform defibrillation quickly, minimising interruptions to chest compressions.
- Resume compressions immediately after each shock delivered to maintain blood flow.
- Manage according to the X-ABCDE protocol
- Control massive haemorrhage, clear the airway and check blood flow.
- Ensure careful monitoring of vital parameters to anticipate any rapid deterioration in the victim’s condition.
A tool suitable for all audiences
The BLS-AED-SRC algorithm is aimed at a variety of audiences, including individuals, healthcare professionals and first responders such as firefighters, police officers and first aiders in companies. Integrated into the compact and comprehensive BLS-AED-SRC training courses, it guarantees uniformity in the learning of resuscitation techniques. Participants benefit from realistic training with scenarios adapted to their environment, enhancing their ability to respond effectively to real-life emergencies.
A guarantee of quality and compliance
The BLS-AED-SRC algorithm is based on the latest international ILCOR guidelines and is validated by organisations such as the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and the American Heart Association (AHA). These scientific foundations ensure a rapid, reliable and appropriate response to critical situations, by bringing practices into line with recent advances in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Participants are thus trained to high standards, guaranteeing optimum quality of intervention.
A commitment to the community
Adopting the BLS-AED-SRC algorithm means becoming an integral part of the chain of survival. The skills acquired in this way will not only enable you to react to life-threatening emergencies, but also to make other people aware of the importance of lifesaving gestures. By taking part in these courses, you actively contribute to the collective safety of your community while developing skills that can be applied in a wide range of emergency situations. To maximise the impact of your learning, it is essential to find the right BLS-AED training organisation, capable of guaranteeing educational quality and compliance with standards.
Whether for personal or professional use, mastering the BLS-AED-SRC algorithm positions you as a key player in preventing deaths from cardiac arrest and other life-saving emergencies.
