The BLS-AED life-saving skills training is intended for anyone wishing to quickly learn the essential resuscitation skills required when responding to cardiac arrest. Designed for both the general public and organisations, this short 2-hour course teaches the essential basics needed to intervene before professional emergency responders arrive.
Led by certified first aid instructors, it offers simple, practical and hands-on learning. Unlike the BLS-AED SRC course, this module does not provide official certification, but focuses on developing skills that can be applied immediately in an emergency.

Target audience

This training is ideal for:

  • Companies wishing to teach their teams life-saving skills
  • Institutions, schools, training centres and sports clubs
  • Non-medical employees wishing to learn basic resuscitation
  • Individuals who want to be able to respond effectively in the event of cardiac arrest

  • Quickly recognise cardiac arrest in an adult
  • Call 144 correctly and provide clear, structured information
  • Respond safely to protect both the casualty and the rescuer
  • Perform effective chest compressions (rate, depth and recoil)
  • Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) by following the device’s instructions
  • Place an unconscious person in the recovery position
  • Participate in a basic team response within their abilities

  • Responding to a life-threatening emergency: assess the scene, protect, alert
  • Recognising cardiac arrest: unresponsiveness and abnormal breathing
  • High-quality CPR: effective chest compressions and minimising interruptions
  • Using an AED: switching it on, attaching the pads and ensuring safety during shock delivery
  • Rescue breaths (optional): depending on the participant’s wishes and abilities
  • Recovery position: simple and safe techniques

Learning methodology for the BLS-AED life-saving skills training

The BLS-AED life-saving skills training is based on a teaching approach that is fully focused on practical application. From the start of the session, participants are guided through simple demonstrations followed by practical exercises using manikins and training AEDs with feedback.

This active approach enables participants to quickly integrate the correct techniques and understand their importance in real-life situations. The first aid instructors, all certified, support each participant individually, correct their movements and build their confidence.

The objective: to enable everyone to respond effectively in the event of cardiac arrest.

FAQ about the BLS-AED life-saving skills training

1Does this training replace a BLS-AED SRC course?

No. This is a non-certifying introduction. It does not replace a BLS-AED SRC course and does not provide any recognised certificate. It is ideal for learning the basic skills, but does not meet professional requirements that call for official certification.

2Is the BLS-AED life-saving skills training different from the non-SRC-certified BLS-AED training?

Yes. The BLS-AED life-saving skills training is a short 2-hour introduction focused on the essential skills for responding to cardiac arrest, without covering the full range of BLS-AED competencies. The non-SRC-certified BLS-AED training is more comprehensive and structured, lasts 4 hours, includes adult, child and infant response, and is based entirely on the BLS-AED-SRC 2021 algorithm. It is still non-certifying, but provides a more advanced level of proficiency.

3Can this training be organised for a company?

Yes. SafetyFirst offers this training directly at your premises, for groups of up to 12 people. It is a popular format for companies wishing to quickly raise their teams' awareness of life-saving skills.

4Is the content the same as the BLS-AED SRC course?

The skills taught are aligned with the BLS-AED-SRC algorithm, but the training remains shorter, simplified and non-certifying. It covers the essentials: recognising cardiac arrest, CPR, AED use and the recovery position, without the SRC assessment requirements.

5Who can participate?

The training is open to everyone, with no prerequisites: employees, teachers, students, volunteers, individuals, sports clubs or institutions. It is designed to be accessible even to those with no previous first aid experience.

6How many participants are there per session?
  • Each session accommodates up to 12 participants, allowing for personalised support and active practice using manikins and training AEDs.
